Your driver will meet you at the reception desk of your hotel or if you are coming on a cruise – at the pier, at the correct dock, with a sign on the car showing your name. We are licensed to get into the dockside and the car will be waiting for you just outside your ship.
If you prefer we can substitute the visit to Monolinthos Hill with a visit to the traditional village of Embona – the wine capital of the island. You may enjoy a fabolous lunch or include a visit to a several wine factory for wine tasting.
First in our program is the famous Filerimos Hill. This place was used as the citadel of the ancient town of Ialyssos. You will be greeted from dozens of peacocks and you will be able to see the 2 monasteries which are situated there and the 18m high cross. You will be rewarded with a gorgeous panoramic view of the West Coast.
Kamiros is a destination for history and archeology lovers, 32km far from the city of Rhodes. This archeological place contains the ruins of the Hellenistic city of Kamiros(founded around 3rd BC century), which created together with the ancient Ialyssos and Lindos the great city-state of Rhodes, founded by Dorians in the 10th century BC
From here we will continue our drive on the West Coast of the Island and we will visit the ruins of Kritinia castle. The castle of Kritinia(Kastello) is a Venetian castle built in 1472 on a steep rock 131m high. It offers a breathtaking view of the Aegean Sea, the West Coast of Rhodes, the island of Chalki and some other deserted islands. The castle was built during the period of the Knights of the Order of St. John and this place was chosen because of its strategic location and 360-degree observation view of the sea.
Surrounded by the beautiful landscape you will really enjoy your visit.
From there we will continue our drive among the West Coast of the island and our next stop will be little before we reach the castle of Monolithos. From this point you will be able to soak in the spectacular panoramic view of the castle and grab memorable panoramic photographs before heading to the castle itself.
Next in our program is the castle of Monolithos which was built by the Knights of St. John in the 1480 AD in order to protect the island from attacks and is placed on a rock 100 m. high. In old times, this castle was considered one of the four more powerful fortresses on the island, but today only the external walls fortifications remain. Inside the perimeter of the walls, there are two 15th century chapels, St. Panteleimon and St. George. Today the castle is widely ruined but it offers great views of the sea and the two islets opposite to it. Access to the castle is by a staircase cut into the rock. In fact, the path towards the castle is so rough that no one has ever managed to conquer it.
We will have at least 40 min stop here so you will be able to reach and explore the ruins of the castle and admire the beauty of the place.
We will return back to the city of Rhodes and we can leave you directly to your hotel or ship or at any point of interest
