Ancient Kamiros is a destination for history and archeology lovers, 32km far from the city of Rhodes. This archeological place contains the ruins of the Hellenistic city of Kamiros(founded around 3rd century BC), which created together with the ancient Ialyssos and Lindos the great city-state of Rhodes, founded by Dorians in the 10th century BC. Visitors here can see Agora(market), a Temple of Athena Kameirados, public buildings, bathhouse, etc.
The place was mainly excavated during the Italian occupation between 1912 – 1943. A lot of discoveries found here are now in the Louvre, the British Museum and the archeological Museum of Rhodes.
