Rhodes Aquarium

The Aquarium of Rhodes which is located at the Northern most tip of the Island, a few steps from the city center. It is one of the most important marine research centers in Greece. The original building was constructed in 1935. In the underground aquarium, the visitor can see many of the species living in the Aegean Sea. The original interior of the Aquarium is decorated with porous rocks and natural seashells, in order to create the impression of an underwater cave. Children love the Marine Aquarium on Rhodes Island, enamored by its diverse range of live Eastern Mediterranean specimens including sea flowers, turtles, octopuses and strange-looking decapods (crustaceans with 10 limbs). Although it is not as big as many modern aquariums, the aquarium creates an underwater atmosphere that captivates visitors of all ages and the air conditioning ensures that it is a cool and refreshing place to be, especially on a hot summer day.
